vacuum-ventsIf you have heating ducts in your home –regardless of whether you have central air or not- it’s important that you keep them clean. Think of this aspect of your heating (and cooling) system as being the circulatory system for your home.

As your lungs, heart, and veins comprise your circulatory system, blood carrying oxygen throughout your body and then carbon dioxide back to the lungs to be expelled, your ducts carry warm air from the furnace to the vents in every room of the house.

When there is dust or dirt built up in the ductwork, it will be carried along on those wafts of warm air and then spilled out into the rooms throughout your home. This will pollute your house with allergens and other microscopic dust and debris. This can pose certain health problems from people in your family.

If the ducts are not sealed properly, then you’re going to be losing valuable hot air into the walls and possibly even the basement of your home. Ductwork can become less efficient over time, but the most common cause is improper installation.

When you lose heat into the walls, the insulation keeps that air from doing your home any good and it will force the heating system to work harder to heat your home, costing your more money every month throughout the heating season.

When arteries in your body become clogged, it forces your heart to work harder to move blood through the system. When your ducts are clogged or are leaking, it’s placing more pressure and strain on your heating system.

If you don’t know when your ducts were last cleaned or the seals were checked, contact us. We can inspect your heating and cooling system to ensure that it is healthy and operating at peak performance levels. Just as you would visit your doctor to check blood pressure, lung capacity, and the rest of your circulatory system, it’s a good idea to have your home’s ductwork inspected and cleaned on a consistent, annual basis.
