About Us

Integrity, Competence, Longevity

Mckinnon is an indoor air quality comfort company providing comprehensive services and products to Toronto home owners and small businesses since 1934

Mandate

Our firm has been in business continuously since 1934, and Michael Nepom has owned and operated it since 1995. Mckinnon is fully licensed, insured, covered by Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (WSIB), operates under the Technical Standards & Safety Authority (TSSA), and is a member of The Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI) and of the Retail Council of Canada.

We believe in providing straightforward information and options to enable sound decisions. We source high-quality, good-value products, make sure they are installed properly and on time, back them up, and deliver fair value for money.

Our History

1934 Mckinnon is founded as a heating company located in Toronto’s Beaches neighbourhood. The company delivers coal, the heating fuel of the day.

1935 Parker Brothers releases the board game Monopoly. Mckinnon vows never to become a large bureaucracy (okay, we’re allowed one small joke in an otherwise earnest website; but in all seriousness, we are not and will never become a faceless corporation).

1940s Technology changes and Mckinnon delivers heating oil.

1950s The era of air conditioning begins. Mckinnon is one of the first companies in Toronto to install and service air conditioning.

1970s Technology changes again. Now Mckinnon is busy converting oil furnaces to natural gas.

1990s There is an increasing awareness of the importance of indoor air quality (IAQ) – proper humidity and clean air. Mckinnon starts working with newer IAQ technologies, such as HEPA filtration.

1995 Present owner, Michael Nepom, purchases and operates Mckinnon.

2000s After decades of delay there is worldwide consensus on the urgency of tackling global warming. Canadians begin shifting to energy saving heating and cooling equipment. Mckinnon provides straightforward advice.

2006 After 72 years at the same Beaches location, Mckinnon moves to a larger modern facility in central Toronto.
